DHARAN, Feb 5: Annapurna RCT entered the semifinals of the ongoing 12th International Tuborg Budha Subba Gold Cup Invitational Football Tournament defeating Knight Chess of Jhapa 1-0 on Friday. Yogesh Gurung, who was later adjudged man-of-the-match, scored the only goal during the match held at the Dharan Stadium. RCT will face hosts Dharan FC on Wednesday.

The solitary goal from Yogesh came in the 3rd minute utilizing a pass supplied by Rishi Rai. There was a good coordination between the duo in the match. Both the teams made about a dozen attempts but failed to convert.

Knight Chess´s Prem Limbu who had scored a hat-trick against Sunacho on Tuesday couldn´t break the strong defense of RCT.

Knight Chess missed a good chance to equalize as Sachindra Dhimal´s header in the 10th minute skied above the bar while RCT custodian Dilip Chhetri blocked a powerful shot of Prem five minutes later. Likewise, RCT player Rishi´s header from a corner kick of Prabesh Katuwal hit the bar in the dying minutes of the first half.

Although RCT kept Knight Chess under pressure in the second half, they were unable to add any other goal.

Knight Chess coach Deepak Karki said they lost due to the weak performance of forwards. “Our striking line was weak so we couldn´t convert,” he said.

Despite the victory, RCT coach Madhu Karki said there was no coordination between the forwards and the midfielders. “We could have added two more goals in the first half,” regretted Karki.

On Saturday, United Kurseong FC of Darjeeling will take on Pokhara XI.
