Coca-cola football begins

KATHMANDU, June 8: The Coca-cola Inter-school Girls´ and Boys´ Football Tournament has officially started Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium. The tournament has the highest cash prize in the school level.

The winner of the tournament in both the boys´ and girls´ category will bag a purse of Rs 200,000 while the runner-up will receive Rs 100,000. The third and fourth position holders will take away Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. 

The tournament will be held in two stages. In the first stage, knockout tournament will be played between different schools at the regional level. Selected teams will then compete in the second stage in Kathmandu in the league-cum-knockout game. 

Forty five schools are competing in the regional selection in Butwal while 128 teams are competing in Kathmandu since Wednesday. The regional selection has also begun in Pokhara among 65 schools and in Dhangadi among 20 schools. The tournament had already started in Banke, Khajura and Nepalgunj earlier this week with 36 participant schools while it will begin later in Biratnagar with 60 participant schools. In the boys´ category, 12 teams --one each from Nepalgunj, Dhangadi and Butwal, two teams from Pokhara, three schools from Britnagar and four schools from Kathmandu-- will be selected at the regional level. All the selected teams will play the league-cum-knockout tournament in Kathmandu. In the girls´ category, eight teams will be brought to Kathmandu for the final round. The organizers will provide food and accommodation for the teams qualifying for the final round and the sponsor Coca-cola will provide a set of jersey for the players.
