30 August 2009 - Triveni Club won the second Bahundanda Cup Men’s Football Tournament outplaying Adarsha Club 3-0 in final today. Mount Manaslu Club claimed the women’s title with a 2-0 victory over Srijana Club.
Sijan Shrestha converted a free-kick in the 22nd minute to provide Triveni the lead before extending their lead three minutes later. Suresh Shrestha’s powerful shot from inside the area sailed into the net. Out of sorts Adarsha were unable to match the performance of Triveni and were virtually out of the game after Subhash Gurung added the third in the final minutes. It was Subhash’s ninth goal of the tournament which earned him the highest scorer award.
Triveni won Rs 25,000 while Adarsha had to content themselves with Rs 12,000. Ashir Gurung of Adarsha Youth Club named the best player. Moon Star Club of Tara Chowk were declared the Fair Play Team.
In the women’s final, Mount Manaslu scored two first half goals which was enough for them to clinch the trophy along with a Rs 5,000 cheque. Roji Gurung gave Manaslu the lead in the 19th minute before Tulasi Gurung sealed their victory adding the second six minutes later.
Roji also finished as the highest scorer of the tournament with four goals while Lalita Gurung of Young Star Club won the best player award. A total of 24 teams — 18 in men’s and six in women’s section — fought for the championships organised by the Young Star Club.
