26 Oct 2009 Another tournament, another lackluster performance, another defeat. This, in fact, is the report card of our teams ranging from junior to senior in the last two months. It all started with the star -studded Three Star Club's first round exit at the Governor's Gold Cup in Sikkim, followed by the Under 16 AFC qualifier debacle. There was also setback for the Under-14 at the Subroto Cup in New Delhi,India. Despite registering a string of victories they failed to make it to the last four.
Now the focus is on the much hyped Under 19 at the ongoing AFC qualifiers in Kathmandu. Prediction of a good result floated by ANFA president Ganesh Thapa and coach Raju Shakya is now something of a misnomer given the fact that the team has got off to a disastrous start. Going by the team's performance indications are that it is destined towards a debacle.Hopefully I am wrong.
The justifiable anger demonstrated by a section of passionate spectators against ANFA, following Nepal's defeat in the opener is fully relevant. It is high time that the Sports Ministry and National Sports Council investigate ANFA for the poor results.By the way, where are our so called sports journalists who have shown no guts to criticize the irresponsible ANFA which is rapidly guiding Nepali football to the gutter.
