5 July 2009 - St Xavier’s School (Jawalakhel) and Arunodaya Secondary School advanced to the Group ‘H’ final of the Coca-Cola Inter-school Football Tournament qualifiers here at the FIFA Technical Centre in Chyasal on Sunday. St Xavier’s edged past Bhaktapur English School 5-3 in tiebreaker after a 2-2 draw in regular play. Bhaktapur rallied twice to extend the match into the tiebreaker before eventually going down 5-3 in penalty shootout. Bibek Pradhan gave St Xavier’s the ninth minute lead but Narayan Shrestha levelled the scores in the 26th minute. Bibek again put St Xavier’s in front in the 39th minute only to be equalised by Ashish Lamichhane in the 59th.
The other semi-final match was also decided on penalty shootout after a 1-1 deadlock against Padmodaya Higher Secondary School. Pema Tamang provided Arunodaya the lead nine minutes into the game but Ram Krishna Kumal forced the tiebreaker with 36th minute equaliser for Padmodaya. Padmodaya’s fightback, however, ended with a 4-3 defeat in the tiebreaker.
Meanwhile, Sharada Higher Secondary School and Shramik Shanti Higher Secondary School made it to the Group ‘E’ semi-finals at the Sanogaucharan grounds. Sharada hammered Bright Horizon Children Home 5-0 on two goals each from Rakesh Chhetri (33rd, 64th) and Nischal Mainali (65th, 73rd) and one from Rajesh Thapa (70th). Shramik Shanti sneaked past Nepal Rastriya Nirman Higher Secondary School 2-1 in the other match. Sailendra Byanjankar equalised for Shramik Shanti after Shiva Nembang had given Nepal National School an early fifth minute lead. Arun Pakhrin scored the winner in the 32nd minute for Shramik Shanti.
