11th Budha Subba Tuborg Gold Cup: Mahato leads Army into Quater-Finals

Dharan Feb 10 -Nepal Army Club created history when they won the first round match first the first time, thanks to a solitary goal from Hari Mahato against Bangladesh's BN Club in ongoing 11th International Invitational Buda Subba Tuborg Gold Cup, on Tuesday. The Aaha Gold Cup runners up, TAC found it tough to penetrate through the tight defence of the newcomers BN Sporting, although they made some threatening moves towards the goal. On the other hand, BN Sporting could create single opportunity in each half.

Man of the match Mahato came close to scoring in the sixth minute of the match but his powerful shot went just above the cross bar. Four minutes later, Dikendra Shrestha hit the woodwork. The Armymen came close to scoring several times in the second half, but they could not find the net. The strikers spoilt some chances, while BN Sporting goalkeeper Aman made a couple of brilliant saves to deny them. In Wednesday’s first quarter-final match, hosts Dharan Football Club will take on Nepal Police Club, who came here with high morale after defending their Aaha Gold Cup title last week in Pokhara.
