KATHMANDU: Nepal’s influential striker Jumanu Rai equalled legend Ganesh Thapa at the third place of the country’s highest all time international goal scorers’ list in the team’s 5-0 thrashing of Timor Leste in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers today.

Jumanu perfectly brought his ninth goal of his career with a wonderful half volley in the 59th minute of the match that left Timor Leste goalkeeper Diamantino Leong stunned. The experienced striker has also scored a goal in Nepal’s 2-1 win in the first leg on Wednesday. Jumanu is now four goals away from joining Nirajan Rayamajhi and Hari Khadka at the first place.

Behind Jumanu is his contemporary Anil Gurung, who also scored today through a penalty to bring his seventh international goal. Anil had also scored in the first leg – also through a spot kick. Anil had also become the first Nepali footballer to score a home goal in the World Cup qualifiers after his goal in the first leg.

Nepal’s second leg against Timor Leste helped the country add three other players in the international goal scorers’ list. Midfielders Bhola Silwal, Jagajeet Shrestha and Sujal Shrestha scored their first international goal in the match. It was also the first World Cup qualifiers match for Jagajeet.
