Himalayan Sherpa win first major title

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Top flight debutant Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) lifted the San Miguel Knockout Football title at the Dasharath Stadium.

HSC defeated New Road Team (NRT) 1-0 in the final for its first major trophy.



A lone goal from striker Deepak Rai was enough for the HSC to seal their victory. Unmarked Rai easily struck the decider in the 63rd minute in his solo effort beating goalkeeper after sprinting the ball from outside the box.

Winners HSC bagged a purse of Rs 200,000 while the runners-up NRT had to be satisfied with Rs 100,000.

HSC coach Upendra Man Singh who succeeded to haul the major trophy in his first duty as a full coach expressed satisfaction towards the outcome and termed it historic. "This is unexpected and historic achievement for the team," said Singh. "It is a new experience for me and I am very much delighted with the success."
