GUWAHATI, Sept 8 – Shillong Lajong Football Club became first team to cruise into the semifinal of the 59th Bordoloi Trophy Tournament.

In their second quarterfinal group league match of the championship at the Nehru Stadium here this evening, they played a goalless draw against Three Star Club of Nepal.

Lajong was quite luckless as they should have won the match considering their performance throughout the course of the match.

They did everything but score in both the sessions.

Michael Ochei, Anil Gurung, Mahlima squandered atleast half a dozen of easy scoring chances but lady luck never smiled on them. The Lajong boys were deprived of hitting the target either by the Nepal custodian Kiron Chemjung or the iron work. Some times they even shot wide finding the goalkeeper alone.

On the other hand, the Nepal attacking line was toothless and they hardly could cross the Lajong danger zone. The Shillong defenders were too good in the air and on the ground as they never left any space for the opponent frontliners.

The second session was completely dominated by the Shillong forwards with a series of fast moving attacks. But their ill-directed shots prevented them in doing any damage.

For Nepal, apart from goalkeeper, defender Biraj Maharajan and Sanjeev Budhathuki stood like rocks and destroyed the frequent Shillong forays into their territory.

The Nepal mid field was also not up to the mark as they neither set the ball for their forwards nor could prevent the opponent attackers fro crossing their danger zone.

With today’s draw, Shillong Lajong gathered four points which is enough to make it to the last-four stage from this group.

In the last match of this group, Assam Police Blues are now in a must-win situation against the Nepal team as a draw will put the foreigners in the semifinals.
