KATHMANDU, Dec 28: Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) defeated Boys Union Club 2-0 on Monday to become the first team to secure berth in the quarterfinals of the ongoing British Gurkha Cup Football Tournament being held at the Dasharath Stadium.

In another match, Surendra Tamang netted five goals as Nabil Three Star Club registered a landslide 11-0 win over a joint team of Mid and Far Western regions.

With the win, RCT climbed atop the group B standings with six points from two matches. Three Star have accumulated four points, Boys Union one and Mid and Far West have yet to open their account. All of them have one match each on their hands.

RCT scored both goals in the second half. Dipak Rai and last moment substitute Saresh Shrestha scored one each for RCT. Utilizing a cross from Yogesh Gurung, Dipak dribbled past three defenders and beat goalkeeper Dasharath Adhikari inside the box to open the scoring in the 62nd minute. Likewise, Saresh, the replacement for Yogesh, sealed the victory for the team in the last minute of the regular time through his golden touch.

RCT squandered about four good opportunities in the second half while Boys Union made two good moves, but could not succeed in scoring.
