05 Dec 2009 - Hosts Bangladesh won the inaugural match of the Sixth SAFF Championship at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka on Friday thrashing Bhutan 4-1.
Bangladesh took the lead in the 11th minute with Pronotos Kumar Das´ goal. Mohammad Inamul doubled the lead 12 minutes later. Bhutan´s Nawang Chiring returned a goal one minute from time in the first half through a penalty. Inamul widened the gap scoring another goal in the 52nd minute while Mohammad Hassan sealed the match in the 72nd minute.
In another match, nine-man Sri Lanka registered a hard fought 1-0 victory over Pakistan to open their accounts with three points. The only goal of the match came in the 25th minute through an easy spot kick off WA Chatura Gunaratne.
