50 footballers called for national team camp


Kathmandu, 22 Oct 2009 - All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) called 50 players for the preliminary training camp for the Sixth South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship on Wednesday. The football governing body also handed over the responsibility of coaching the team to Krishna Thapa and Maheshwor Mulmi.

But the responsibilities of two senior coach is still undecided.

ANFA wrote to clubs with the names of the players and requested to send them for the training from Sunday.

Nabil Three Star Club tops the chart as 14 of its players are called. Anjan KC, Lokbandhu Gurung, Pradeep Maharjan, Yugal Kishor Rai, Santosh Sahukhala, Sandeep Rai, Sanjib Budhathoki, Prabin Karki, Anil Ojha, Bikash Singh Chhetri, Surendra Tamang, Kiran Chemjong, Bijay Gurung and Visad Gauchan are the club´s players called for the camp.

Likewise, 10 players, along with Captain Rakesh Shrestha, are called from Nepal Police Club. Ritesh Thapa, Rabin Shrestha, Suman Subedi, Bhola Silwal, Jumanu Rai, Dipen Shrestha, Yogesh Shrestha, Roshan Karki and Chetan Ghimire are other police personnel for the training camp.

Seven players of NRT - Biraj Maharjan, Sagar Thapa, Ranjit Shrestha, Anil Gurung, Laxman Ruchal, Suvash Rai and Khum Gurung - were called along with custodian Bikash Malla, Chun Bahadur Thapa, Raju Tamang, Santosh Nepali, Biswa Bairag Samal and Bikarna Shrestha from the Nepal Army Club.

Likewise, Dipak Bhusal, Nirajan Khadka, Rupak Shrestha, Nuraraj Kafle, Pukar BK, Shisir Adhikari and Bharat Khawas of Friends Club as well as Santosh Gurung, Dipak Rai, Dilip Chhetri of RCT are also called in the team. Ganesh Lawati, and Amir Shrestha of APF and Shekhar Limbu of Boys Union are also in the fifty-member list.

Nepal is in the tough group of the tournament scheduled to be kick off on December 5 in Bangladesh. Nepal have to take on defending champion Maldives, four time winner India and physical power Afghanistan.
