DHARAN, Feb 3: A brace from Prem Limbu helped Knight Chess Club of Jhapa enter the quarterfinals of the 12th International Tuborg Budhasubba Gold Cup Invitational Football Tournament being held in Dharan on Wednesday.

Prem, who was later adjudged the man-of-the-match, scored a hat-trick as Knight Chess defeated Sunacho of Sikkim 4-1.

Sunacho took an early lead in the 12th minute but could not keep up the pace later on. Sunacho´s Paiman took advantage of an error of defender Kedar Basnet to snatch the ball and slam it in the net from 25 yards. Knight Chess equalized in the 30th minute. Deepak Tamang converted a free kick which was awarded after he was fouled by Buddhi Bir Rai.

The first half ended with a 1-1 draw but Knight Chess dominated the entire second half. Prem Limbu scored another goal for Knight Chess in the 65th minute. He scored his second goal four minutes later to add to the advantage, and then sealed the match with his third goal in the 83rd minute. Prem scored all the goals in passes set by Bishal Rai. Bishal and Prem missed around a dozen other good opportunities to finish.

Sunacho´s coach Arjun Rai said that his side lost as they participated in the tournament for the first time due to unfamiliar field.

Manager of Knight Chess Sher Bahadur Basnet said his team was confident about winning the match as they had struck 11 goals against the opponents last year in Sikkim. “We had hoped to score at least eight to ten goals but the players could not finish,” he said.

The winners will take on New Road Team on Friday while Thursday´s match will be between the hosts Dharan FC and Armed Police Force.
