Three Star struggle to reach semis in Assam

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Nabil Three Star Club secured the semifinal berth in the the 59th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament 2010 being held in Guwahati, India.

Three Star played yet another draw in the quarterfinal round robin on Friday and advanced into the semifinals.

Assam Police held Three Star in a goalless draw on Friday. However, Three Star qualified for the last four with two points in the 3-team group.

Three Star had played goalless draw against Shillong Lajjong Club, the new home of Nepali national striker Anil Gurung, on Wednesday. Lajjong, who defeated Assam Police, are already in the last four.

According to Three Star goalkeeper Sajeeb Shrestha, his side and Assam Police both failed to utilize scoring chances in both halves. Buddha Chemjong attempted a goal in the 8th minute but Assam´s goalkeeper saved it. As the highlight of the first half, Bishnu Sunuwar saved Assam´s attack in one-versus-one situation while Rajkumar Ghisings´ long range shot was blocked by Assam goalie.

Chemjong missed an open net chance in the 51st minute of the match as an Assam defender cleared his shot. Three Star´s new signing Ranjeet Shrestha missed header in the 72nd minute. Three Star´s goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong emerged the hero in the second half as he saved a one-versus-one attack in the 60th minute and the 86th minute to take Three Star to the semifinals.

Saturday´s match between Awani Football Club, Dhaka and ASCD, Assam will decide semifinal opponent of Three Star.
