Himalayan Sherpa Club unveils team

KATHMANDU: The ‘A’ Division outfit Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) unveiled its newly-signed 22 players along with former national skipper of Nepal Upendra Man Singh as the head coach for the upcoming season here today.

Skipper of Nepali national team Sagar Thapa along with veteran defender Nabin Neupane and Bimal Malla joined HSC from New Road Team (NRT) in an undisclosed amount. HSC have lured the most number of player from Friends Club. Goalkeeper Rupak Shrestha, midfielder Pukar Gahatraj and defenders Deepak Thapa and Deepak Gurung quit Friends to join HSC.

Other new signing were winger Jaggajit Shrestha, strikers Amar Pun and Ritesh Malla from Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club, Dinesh Karki, Subash Limbu and Sanjok Rai from Nepal Armed Police Force Club, Deepak Rai and Ashok Sen from Ranipokhari Corner Team, Kamal Bista and Sunil Subedi from Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club, Saroj Dahal from Nabil Three Star Club, and Rupesh KC from G’Five Machhindra FC.

HSC also renewed contract of Devendra Chaudhary and recruited two new players in Phinjok Sherpa and Amrit Chaudhary. Dinesh, Subash and Ashok re-joined the HSC after representing various clubs in the last Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League.

Coach Singh expressed delight for considering him fit for the job. “After a long discussion with the club management, I’ve sealed the contract,” added Singh. The vision and long-term plan of the club motivated me to join the outfit.”

He was also all praise for the recruits which was done following his recommendation. Likewise, skipper Sagar said that he joined HSC due to the lucrative offer. HSC President Karma Tshering Sherpa denied to reveal the exact amounts of the new recruits but said the players will be paid between Rs 10,000 to Rs 35,000.

Established in 2005, the HSC was promoted to A Division after finishing runner-up in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League in 2008. HSC won Sayapatri Gold Cup, Butwal in 2007 and finished runner-up in three other tournaments — Mahendra Khadka Memorial Cup, Panauti in 2007, All Star Cup, Aabukhaireni and Progressive Star Cup, Nawalparasi in 2008.
