BUC swim to safety at APF’s expense

KATHMANDU, APR 30 - Boys Union Club’s battle for survival gained further momentum when they stunned Rani Pokhari Team (RCT) 2-0 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League at the Dashrath Stadium on Thursday. They moved out of relegation zone for the first time this season.

The win pushed Boys Union up to 10th with 15 points from 18 games at the expense of Armed Police Force on 13 points. But they are nowhere close to safety due to the cut-throat competition for survival between APF, Sankata and themselves. Sankata, on 10 points, are at the bottom of the table, while RCT’s position remained unchanged at eighth with 21 points.

Later in the day, the match between New Road Team, leading 2-0 against NIB Friends, came to an abrupt halt on 38th minute due to unfavourable weather conditions. Officials said the match would resume on Friday at the same that

it stopped.

BUC coach Kumar Katwal was more than pleased with the win. He said their battle for survival was on the right tack. “I had motivated my players to give their best in the reaming few game, and they played accordingly,” he added.

BUC took a deserved lead after dominating much of the possession. Sagar Ghimire broke the deadlock on 58th minute from a coolly taken penalty, and Shekhar Limbu sealed the comfortable win on 82nd minute to give BUC a much needed win.

BUC now have four more games to go before the season comes to an end and Katwal is pretty confident the team will swim ashore if they manage two more wins. The game against Armed Police Force, he said, was vital as the two teams are evenly matched, while the remaining games are against Three Star, Jawalakhel and Machhindra.

In the NRT-NIB Friends encounter, the former could have routed the latter had it not been for the blinding rain. NRT were comfortably 2-0 up on 28th minute with two goals coming inside three minute.

Nirajan Raimajhi, who was filling in for suspended Danish striker Sayam Mosavi, scored the first of the two on 25th minute, and Jeewan Sinkeman added another three minutes later. The remaining 10 minutes of the game were marred by rain until it was stopped on 38th minute.

NRT, third with 34 points, will leapfrog Three Star at second should they win the postponed match. Meanwhile, the match between Sankata and Machhindra scheduled for Friday will be postponed to give continuity to today’s postponed match.
