The on going AFC U-16 group B qualifier has proved a debacle for Nepal, following two consecutive defeats. As a die hard Nepali footballer the outcome has shocked and upset me. Never in my wildest dream I ever thought that the team would perform below par. Going by all available reports the boys paid dearly for their inconsistency and poor brand of football.
ReplyDeleteAs host Nepal had the home advantage to capitalize big on the competition but sadly it never materialized. The opening shock defeat at the hands of Lebanon proved fatal and they simply fizzled out in the next match. Against Iran in a must win situation they caved in without a fight.
Prior to start of the tournament everybody including me thought that we stood a pretty good chance. After losing to Lebanon there was cry of protest from our side regarding the possibility of the opposition fielding over age players.
But the finger pointing has not gained momentum so far. Hopefully the accusation was not made`out of sheer frustration. If All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) feels the same way they should promptly address the issue to AFC.Let us not forget that we were also guilty of fielding over age players in the past, and it is hoped that we have the right players this time.
As for the team's mediocrity, I largely hold ANFA accountable. Like in the past the team was inadequately and poorly trained for such a crucial championship.
With a couple of months of very ordinary training the team entered the tournament to lock horns with some of the best footballing nations in Asia.
My heart goes out to the players for their commitment and effort but sadly the gross negligence and ignorance on part of ANFA is guiding them to nowhere. Shame on you ANFA.
