Radhika lift school football trophy

17 August 2009 - Radhika Secondary School, Morang, bagged the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school National Football Tournament on Monday. Radhika defeated Janak Memorial Boarding School from the same district 5-4 in sudden death in the final match held at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato.

The match went to tie breaker after the regular 80 minutes and the added 20 minutes ended in 1-1 stalemate. In the tie breaker, Suku Rai, Rajin Dhimal and Arun Lingden scored for Radhika while Sagar Parajuli and Purna Bahadur Danuwar failed. Roshan Kumar Chaudhary, Aman Kumar Majhi and Bishnu Chaudhary netted for Janak before Radhika goalie Ishwar Giri save Amrit Luitel´s shot and Baijanath Majhi´s shot went over the bar.

After stalemate in tie breaker too, the match was decided through sudden death. Dipen Bardewa and Tek Narayan Chaudhary scored for Radhika and Janak respectively. In the second sudden death goal, Raj Kumar Chaudhari scored the winning goal for Radhika after Anubhav Khatiwada failed to score for Janak.

Earlier in the match, Aman Kumar Majhi gave the lead for Janak in the 21st minute in his solo effort from inside the box. Radhika missed several chances in the slippery ground. Radhika bounced back in the second half with a goal from Rajin Dhimal in the 43rd minute. Both the teams played aggressively in the remaining time but could not score.

With the victory, Radhika bagged a purse of Rs 200,000 and the champion´s trophy while Janak were satisfied with Rs 100, 000. The third place winner Sautha Higher Secondary School, also from Morang district, bagged a cash prize of Rs 50, 000.

For the third place match held in Sano Gaucharan Ground, Sautha hammered Arunodaya School of Kathmandu 5-1.Arunodaya received a cash prize of Rs 25, 000. Feroj Tamang, Suman Limbu, Samshu Rai, Yubaraj Dhimal and Prem Tamang scored one goal apiece for the winners while Tikaram Lama scored the consolation for Arunodaya.

Aman Kumar Majhi of Janak and Purna Bahadur Danuwar were adjudged the best forward and defender, respectively. Prem Kumar Basnet of Birendra Sainik Awasiya Maha Vidyalaya and Prem Tamang of Sautha were named as best goal-keeper and mid-fielder. All four players will provided training for two weeks at the Tata Football Academy in India in December.
