POKHARA, Jan 29 - The top guns of Nepali football Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC) resisted a strong challenge from ANFA Academy U-19 before edging them 5-4 in penalties to advance to the quarterfinals of the Seventh Aaha Gold Cup at the Pokhara Stadium on Thursday. Star-studded NTSC failed to break the deadlock in the regulatory time and the added extra time, taking the game to penalties, where NTSC goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong denied the attempt of Jagjit Shrestha to breathe life into NTSC.
Yugal Kishor Rai, Bikash Singh Chhetri, Anjan K.C, Anil Ojha and Bijay Gurung all converted for NTSC while Rohit Chand, Shiva Shrestha, Ravi Thapa Magar and Sabindra Shrestha found the net for the ANFA. Despite NTSC's lineup boasting all the big names in Nepali football, it was the inexperienced colts of ANFA who created most chances. Their first real chance of the game came in the 23rd minute when Ravi Thapa's attempt sailed inches over the cross bar. Jagit had his scorcher denied by Chemjong in the 64th minute.
NTSC boss Bal Gopal Maharjan conceded that ANFA were the better side on the day but his team rode on experince for the win.
