The much-awaited football tournament, Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League, which was interrupted for the past two years will begin from April 4. With the end of the row between all Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and Nepal Football Association (NFA), the committee formed to hold and manage the league informed about the resumption of the long-awaited event at a press conference on Friday.
The committee also briefed about domestic as well as international tournaments Nepal would participate in the year 2009. It stated that specific rules and regulations pertaining to the tournament and players registration would be set to launch the tournament smoothly.
A five-member committee headed by Indra Man Tuladhar a been formed in the presence of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Council to end the dispute. "We have made preparations to hold this year's league as per the understanding between both the associations,' said Tuladhar, "We have fixed the date of the league to match the international fixtures." He stated that even though Nepali team's participation for this year's AFC Cup is confirmed, the decision about the team to send for the tournament has not yet been made due to the absence of this year's 'A' Division League.
The committe stated that 12 'A' dividion teams will clash in a knockout tournament under the name 'Prime Minister Inviational Cup' before the league. The event will be held in Kathmandu from Feb 21 - March 2. Vice-President and Spokesperson of ANFA Lalit Krishna Shrestha said the probability of continuing the sponsorship contract with Sanmiguel for the Martyr's MEmorial 'A' Division League is high. "The probality of changing the spornser is very low" Shrestha said.
